Sometimes, the most profound expressions of gratitude come in the form of quiet beauty. For me, this beauty took the shape of a memorial wreath, a floral tribute I had the immense honor of creating for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.
For years, I’ve been a familiar face to Honor Flight of the Ozarks veterans, a beacon of warmth and appreciation. As the ‘flower lady’ of RosamungThorns, I’ve had the privilege of greeting returning heroes with a single, long-stemmed red rose, a symbol of our nation’s enduring gratitude. But creating this wreath, witnessing it laid at the Tomb, was beyond anything I could have imagined.
My connection to service runs deep. With a father, late husband, and son all having served in the U.S. Navy, I understand the profound sacrifice made by our veterans. This understanding fuels my unwavering commitment to honoring their service.
And then, in October 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to witness the ceremony firsthand, as a participant on the Honor Flight of the Ozarks. As I watched my wreath being placed, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride. It wasn’t just about the flowers; it was about the culmination of years of dedication, a tangible expression of the collective gratitude we feel for those who gave their all. This was, without a doubt, my proudest moment.
It was a labor of love, a process where I carefully selected each flower, considering its symbolism and the overall message I wanted to convey. I wanted to create a wreath that was both beautiful and meaningful, a silent yet powerful tribute crafted with love and reverence.
Standing there, witnessing the solemn ceremony, I felt a deep connection to the history and sacrifice embodied by the Tomb. This wreath, a culmination of my passion and respect, represents more than just flowers. It embodies the spirit of remembrance, a symbol of the enduring legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to have created this tribute, a moment I will cherish forever.
